We have been repairing automobiles for many years and we can tell you first hand that its always much more budget friendly to follow the factory recommended service guide lines and perform preventative maintenance before vital components fail and leave you stranded and frustrated. As the old cliché goes, maintenance or payments: no one rides for free. Vehicle manufacturers publish guidelines for scheduled maintenance but the guidelines are often incomplete.

In the past we have published a list of major components and what we consider their approximate life expectancy to be. Over the years the list and life expectancy figures can change a lot so here is a new updated list that we assembled with information from a consumer report article and our own experience. This information is to be used as a guideline only.
